KWP has changed everything for me. I look forward to meeting my new 9th graders with knowledge that will create student agency and vibrance that will be seen throughout my high school. I didn't only learn about strategies, I learned how to implement them in a variety of ways. Thank you, KWP!

KWP Summer Institute has been one of the most beneficial professional experiences of my 21 year career. Whether it was learning something new or reimagining something I had used before in my classroom, everything was useful and relevant. I plan to go back to my school and tell anyone who will listen that they need this institute! My life has been changed for the better!

I came to this training with preconceived ideas of what this would be full of. Another writers' workshop where we would write to predetermined prompts, under pressure to make them longer and/or more descriptive. I am very happy to say it was the opposite. I was told that writing for learning does not need to be stressful at all. There should not be a predetermined length or level of descriptiveness at the end. Free writing should be just that, free. Free to express yourself how you see fit and in whatever form you choose. At the end of the conference, we were given the opportunity to go on a writing walk, where we walked around and stopped to write about what we observed, felt, thought, or whatever we chose. For me, this conference was liberating. My desire to write was all but extinguished by previous teachers who would tell me to be more descriptive. I am a literal speaker and, by nature, a literal writer. I say what I have to say, and I am finished. I was told that this was ok. Unless I am writing for an audience that requires a specific word count or some other qualifier to fulfill their needs, I CAN JUST WRITE!
